THE number of goods vehicles registered on March 31, 1958, was 1,280,699, compared with 1,245,621 a year earlier and 1,162,416 in 1956. Of the 1958 total, 319,824 vehicles were in the Metropolitan Area, 186,688 in the NorthWestern Area and 125,805 in the West Midland Area..

The number of passenger vehicles declined from 74,472 on March 31, 1956, to 74,177 a year later and 73,822 in 1958. There were, however, increases in the numbers of passenger vehicles in Yorkshire and Scotland. Of the 1958 total, 11,242 were registered in the north-west and 10,596 in London.

MORE MYSTERY TOURS

A TOTAL of 9,482 people travelled on I-I Western Welsh Omnibus Co., Ltd., mystery tours and excursions, from Neath in 1958 compared with 2,177 in 1956, the chairman of the South Wale; Traffic Commissioners, Mr. D. Idris Owen, was .told at Cardiff last week. He granted an application by thc company to introduce 20 additional tours14 of them mystery trips, Mr. F. Pengelly, the company's traffic superintendent, said "until 1956 little was done in the area, now we are operating 48 tours from Neath and the application is to provide passengers with a more varied choice of destination." They were also helping the company's stage-carriage services, he added.
