nURING the past few years great
advances have been made in the manufacture and application of resinbonded plywood. The possibility of obtaining beauty of finish is apparent in the interior decoration of a Guy Otter Luton van recently panelled throughout in resin-bonded plywood veneers by the Edmonton Panel Co., Ltd., a member of the group of companies controlled by A.V.P. Industries, Ltd., Edmonton, London, N.18.
The vehicle is to be used as a mobile showroom to demonstrate the finish and artistic effects which can be obtained with plywood veneers. The interior is panelled in 55 different kinds.
On tour throughout Britain and Ireland, the van will carry a number of choice pieces of furniture in which, again, the full beauty of veneer finishes will be aptly shown. All the furniture to be carried will be products of the furniture manufacturing companies of the group.
It is understood that the interior panelling cost about £1,000. The exterior duralumin panelfinecarries two large photographic displays in which the enlargements have been processed on to resin-bonded plywood.
The body is-23 ft_ 6 in. long, 7 ft. 6 in. wide and 10 ft. 6 in. high, the capacity being approximately 1,780 cu. ft. The van is one of a fleet of 150 operated by the group.
Before conversion to its present duties, the vehicle, with Luton-type van body, was used qn trunk services to Scotland, on which it covered 100,000 miles.
The power unit is a Gardner .4LK oil engine. To accommodate the large van body, the chassis was lengthened by a Baico 2 ft. 6 in, extension.
The vehicle was supplied to the operdtor by the Marston Motor Co., Ltd., Seven Sisters Road, London, N.15, Guy distributors.
