Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

[HIS IS our 75th anniversary. We were the first all road-transport )ublication, we have consistently been market leaders, and still are today. Jur policy was stated clearly in the first issue: "We enter the arena letermined to support the highest traditions of class journalism and to maintain ourselves and our charge in the front tank. We will not stalk mpudently behind any barrier or unapproachability or custom." Today the orm of words has changed, the principle remains firm.

CM's transport interests have developed beyond publishing the journal )ach week. We formed the Institute of Road Transport Engineers, we escued nd developed the Lorry Driver of the Year Competition, we sponsor he Fleet Management Conference and the Energy Conference, and we were he catalyst which brought the owner-drivers association officials and the 11-IA officials together, we conceived AVRO.

This year we are sponsoring six 0000 study awards and two debates on "ransport and Society and Accident Research. We introduced in 1977 a rehicle livery competition and this attracts more and more entries each year.

Every new operator receives a "welcome to the industry" letter from CM, ind every established operator receives all the assistance we can offer from iur resources. This includes our annual "Table of Operating Costs," widely ecognised as an authoritative guide to haulage rates. CM speaks to and for the industry objectively and forthrightly. We are not he serfs of any sector of the industry. Our road test and equipment reports re uninfluenced by commercial considerations. This very week we refused wo pages of advertising because we found the nature of the advertisement inacceptable.

Our staff have trained in all aspects of transport and journalism. We not ,nly write about the business — we return periodically to the field and so Inderstand our reader's problems. Times change, and as the face of transport changes so will our editorial Tofile. But our policy will remain steadfast: "The advancement of road -ansport throughout Europe and the promotion of all aspects of transport rhich will lead to a healthy and efficient industry."

We look forward to another successful 15 years. Whatever technological nd operational changes take place we ntend to be with them, in the Drefront, as always.
