Electric Power for Floor Cleaning

A N additional range of battery powered floor-cleaning equipment has been introduced by Diamond Motors (Wolverhampton), Ltd., Upper Villiers Street, Wolverhampton. Known as the Mechocleen range, it consists or three machines—a dry scrubber-polisher, a wet-dry scrubber-polisher and a dryer. All three have Exide traction batteries.

The two scrubbing machines may be adapted to clean any type of floor merely by changing the brushes. The scrubber unit, consisting of the brushes, a I h.p. electric motor, wheels and handlebar, may be separated from the battery cradle and castors. The separate battery cradle takes up less room in the charging bay and, where shift work is necessary, each machine can be equipped with two battery cradles, so that it may be kept constantly in operation.

Brushes scrub and polish the full 19-in width of the machine, so that floor areas alongside walls and immov able objects may be reached. .

The wet-scrubber has a 44-gal. tank mounted on the handlebar and a variable-feed control.

An aluminium dust cover encloses the gears between the electric mote)] and the brushes, whilst glasspol mouldings Cover the motor unit and switch

mechanism. .

New Process Cuts Costs A NEW method of producing high

strength synchronizing rings for transmission systems by powdered metallurgy has been introduced by Machine Products, Ltd...Swindon, Wilts. It is estimated that the cost of synchronizing rings made by the new process will be much reduced.

Complex-contour components may be made to a degree of accuracy which does away with many of the machining operations hitherto essential. Of the six operations previously necessary, four have been eliminated, and the only machining still required is slotting and cutting a thread on the inside of the ring, which is made from 10-per-cent. tin-bronze.

It is stated that laboratory and road tests over the past two years have proved by synchronizing rings by the process to be V.S satisfactory as parts produced by conventional methods.
