IN/HEN F.L.S. Transport, Ltd., OldVV land Common, near Bristol sought to add six vehicles, totalling 234 tons, to their A licence before Mr. S. W. Nelson, Western Licensing Authority, on Monday, Mr. R. Mercer, for the British Transport Commission, challenged figures produced by the applicants showing the extent to which they hired transport. He said that this information related to clearing-house work.
In the year ended December last, applicants' gross receipts totalled £30,107 18s. lid, and £12,277 16s. 10d. was said to have been paid for hiring vehicles from 102 operators. Mr. Mercer submitted that four of the corn.pany's main customers were clearing houses.
The application was supported by Lovell and Christmas, Ltd., wholesale grocers, Bristol, who wished to do more business in Plymouth and Cornwall. Mr. Mercer mentioned that British Road Services offered a regular trunk service to these parts. The' export manager of John Harvey and Son, Ltd., wine merchants, Bristol, Was challenged by Mr. Mercer when he said • that he had not used B.R.S.. for three years.
Mr. Nelson added five vehicles to the licence, on the understanding that one would normally be kept off, the road for maintenance. He was satisfied-that a case had been made out, especially as grocer customers required .a 24-hour service.

This follows the unsuccessful Murray appeal case (The Commercial Motor, March 1) which waS backed by the A.A. and in which the value of photographs taken from a police car was challenged.

A NEW Austin A.55. 10-cwt: pick-up 11 appeared at the Geneva Show, which opened yesterday. It has a load' space of 40. Cu. ft. and the cab seats three people. it is intended in the first place for export, but will be available in Britain shortly.
