DURIls7G the past few weeks a considerable -I--"number of passenger-vehicle operators has come to terms for the taking over of their services by larger companies. Fresh applications for road service licences have, of course, to be applied for, but in most cases there is no difficulty about this.
It might be wondered why, after the introduction of the Road Traffic Act, 1930 (which either stabilizes a service or cancels it), it should become necessary for so many of the independent operators to dispose of their businesses ; but the fact is that some of them have suffered severely from either restrictions or trade conditions, and they are glad to retire with some sort of a recompense.
At this juncture, those smaller operators whose services have been satisfactorily licensed, might be well advised to consider carefully any proposal to take over their businesses before they make a decision. The stability which the Act affords them and the prospect of more settled conditions in the industry should be seriously taken into account.
