• London Bus workers are to step up industrial action following their rejection of the management's latest, 8.1% pay offer. The 19,000 workers voted by a six-to-one majority to stage a series of strikes in support of an improved offer.

Another meeting is planned between Transport and General Workers' Union leaders and management for this week, but TGWU London bus secretary 011ie Jackson says that unless the meeting leads to meaningful negotiations there will be weekly 24-hour stoppages. o London Regional Transport has awarded new bus operating contracts on seven routes.

South London has won twoyear contracts to operate the 403 Cheam-Warlingham Park Hospital and the 197/197A/ 197B services from Norwood to Croydon and Caterham. All were previously run by London County South-West.
