• Within days of the launch of a new CV we're generally on the phone to the manufacturer asking about a road test. It is usually easier to get hold of light vans than their heavy counterparts, as there are often a number of models on the press fleet. It can still take several weeks to get our hands on a new vehicle, however, and so our roadtest programme can get a bit jumbled up as a result.
For this reason, if we simply put our last 14 road tests in this summary there would be far too many pickups, not enough panel vans, and at least four vehi
cies from a single manufacturer who has launched a number of new models lately.
Instead, we have taken a cross-section of recent road tests to include a representative sample of car-derived vans, microvans, panel vans and pickups. These vehicles are not necessarily the best in any category, but give a flavour of the sort of vehicles that are available.
Our thumbnail sketches start with the diminuative microvans, the Subaru Sumos, followed by a trio of car-derived vans, one pickup, three 4x2 panel vans, and a fourwheel-drive panel van.
