The encouragement of "positive" cricket is one of the aims of the new Holt Products Trophy. This is not to be confused with negative 'cricket in which the object is not to score runs but to disable the opposing side.
The trophy will go to the county that is judged to have given the best performance against the Indian test touring team. The first match in the Holt series is to be played at Northampton on June 27-29. The imaginative and colourful trophy, of which the theme is the cricket ball and its seam, is in silver and acrylic and was designed by Brian Asquith.
• • There will also be individual prizes for batting, bowling and wicket-keeping.
