The latest haul takes the total value of goods stolen from Felixstowe docks to near 13 million.

Suffolk crime prevention officer lnsp Doug Corcoran said: "I ask firms not to leave goods unattended and vulnerable, and don't be slack in handling paperwork.

"Drivers must not talk about the high-value loads they may be carrying: careless talk can be costly."

Geoffrey Simms, Eastern vice-chairman of the Road Haulage Association, said his member firms' security had been stepped up, "After the series of bigmoney thefts from the Felixstowe area, we had meetings with Suffolk police. We take our responsibilities very seriously and since then things have improved. But there is room for inure improvement," Simms said.

In the i:228,0111 theft, cigarettes were stolen while in transit between the Netherlands and Cambridgeshire via Felixstowe.
