New EVA chairman Mike Sharman said: "We'll still be around when the OPEC oil runs out." He claimed that it was now clear that the main reason behind the current push towards electric vehicles in America was the need to be independent of OPEC.
"There is now an increasing willingness among Americans to pay the initial cost of an electrically powered vehicle."
He added: "In Europe our own vehicle owners are heartily sick of being petrol puppets who have to jump higher each time OPEC jerks the strings."
