THERE can be no possible doubt about the attractiorm commercial characteristics in diesel engines to military user This was one of the points made by David Plastow of Rc Royce when he gave the Henry Spurrier Memorial Lectur( the Chartered Institute of Transport on Monday.
He mentioned that fuel economy, reliability and durabilit3 have substantial and costly implications for the non-civi user.
Recalling the problems encountered during the research development programme of the twin chamber Wankel eng Mr Plastow said that, with hindsight, Rolls-Royce would reluctant to pursue the specialist approach again.
