• Selection and use of mechanical handling equipment will be discussed at a conference to be held at the University of Birmingham on January 10 and 11. It will be organized by the Manipulative and Mechanical Handling Machinery and Railway groups of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and will include papers on equipment for packaged loads, pallets and containers as well as discussion on fork-lift trucks, self-loading vehicles, mobile cranes and fork-lifts for rough terrain, high-bay warehouse automatic equipment and stacker cranes, ro-ro tractor/ trailer units and container handling equipment.

The registration fee is £23 which includes the conference dinner charge. There is a charge of £2.50 for accommodation in the university hall of residence if required.
