Ray W. Plenderieith, 52, has been appointed distribution director of Cadbury Schweppes Ltd. Following the recent merger, he will have special responsibility for studying the distribution facilities of Cadbury and Schweppes. both of which operate their own depots and delivery service to customers throughout the UK. Since 1959, Mr. Plenderleith had been in charge of the Cadbury Group management services. including work measurement and computer complex. He is particularly interested in the application of computers in transport and distribution.

D. R. Hunter has been co-opted to the National Council of the Freight Transport Association as the representative of the Confederation of British Industry. At the same time, G. F. Page, president of the FTA, has been co-opted to the Grand Council of the CBI. Where appropriate, there will also be cross-representation between committees of the two bodies. Jimmy Crampton, who worked for the Scunthorpe branch of BRS Ltd., is the first lorry driver to receive the highest award of the Order of the Knights of the Road. Mr, Crampton was driving on Al when he saw flames spurt from the rear wheel of a lorry ahead; as the vehicle stopped, he pulled alongside, alerted the driver and was attempting to beat the flames out when the tyre burst in his face, blinding him and seriously injuring his right arm. At a special award ceremony Mr. Crampton received his Knight of the Order statuette and a certificate of courage from the Mayor of Scunthorpe. P. D. Lucas, on behalf of the Order's executive coundl. paid tribute to Mr. Crampton's courageous act. Colin Ryan, following his appointment earlier this year as chairman of Aveling-Barford Ltd., has relinquished the managing directorship to F. Clem, who moves from the post of general manager, Scam mell Lorries Ltd. B. C. Jessop takes over Mr. Clam's duties at Scammell and for the time being retains his responsibilities as work director. R. J. Ellery has retired from the chairmanship of Jamaica Omnibus Services Ltd. but remains on the board for the time being. He is succeeded by A. F. R. Carling, currently loT president and a director of BET Ltd and United Transport Ltd.. the two principal shareholders in the Jamaica company.

W. S. C. Leech is to retire owing to ill-health as chairman of Wintour Holdings Ltd.—parent company of Windsorian Coaches Ltd., and Windsorian Touring Co. Ltd.—with effect from October 1. He will be succeeded by D. E. C. Hayes, the present managing director of the group. Before joining Windsorian. Mr. Hayes was managing director of the Dar-es-Salaam Motor Transport Co. Ltd.

W. S. B. Jackson, staff officer, north western, British Road Services Ltd., has been appointed staff officer, BRS Parcels Ltd., to succeed G. E. Papworth, Brian Naylor has become divisional manager of the Exide Batteries division of Electric Power Storage Ltd.
