Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Midlands haulier David Vicary and former managing director Jim Weir have emerged as white knight buyers for the transport division of S Jones Industrial Holdings which called in the receiver last month.

The new company will be known as S Jones (Transport) Ltd and Vicary, who runs a bulk tipping business, is both majority shareholder and chairman.

Weir, who left S Jones more than a year ago but later returned as a consultant to assist in the disposal of its transport division, says the two men have been trying to purchase the business since last June.

The new company—which mainly hauls bulk liquids and drinks and has a growing 44tonne intermodal fleet—will operate 64 vehicles and employ 37 subcontractors.

According to Weir, all 80 staff have been transferred to the new firm under the Transfer of Undertakings and Protection of Employment regulations. Weir says new vehicle and trailer deals have already been agreed, with 28 vehicles and 10 trailers being replaced over the next six months.
