Transatlantic interest in Hope device

rONSIDERABLE interest by Canadians and

Americans in his anti-jack-knifing device for artics is reported by Mr. Fred Hope, who has recently returned from Toronto. He went there for a safety convention at the invitation of the American National Safety Council.

Mr. Hope spoke to the convention—there were more than 100 safety officers there from vehicle fleets throughout America and Canada— on his experiences as an operator of artics and on the features of his anti-jack-knifing device. He gave demonstrations of artic jack-knifing and some local drivers tested an outfit fitted with the device on a road specially closed by the police for the purpose.

Those present were tremendously impressed with the exercise and the senior vice-president of the American Fruehauf company flew specially from Detroit to be present. the demonstrations were widely reported in the Canadian Press and were covered by television.

With all the interest, orders are confidently expected. An order for 2,000 of the units for America is at present being completed, but the possibility of the device being produced under licence in the US is not being considered. It is possible, however, that there will be a future agreement with a Japanese company to produce the unit.

Chrysler-Cummins entertain Dodge dealers r HRYSLER-CUMMINS played host to a party

of some 30 Dodge distributors and dealers from the north of England at their Darlington Plant last week. This was the first of a series of tours of the plant planned by Dodge Bros. (Britain) Ltd., of Kew.

During the visit arrangements were made to conduct the dealers to the adjacent Cummins Engine Co. Ltd. plant, in which fuel systems and other related components are manufactured.

The Chrysler-Cummins Darlington plant was constructed and equipped at a total cost of ES-fm. and was officially opened in July, 1965. It is confidently expected that 12 months after the plant became available output will be running at 66 per cent of the planned capacity of 120 units assembled per eight-hour shift.
