Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

APLYING for new express services to the Butlins Holiday Camp at Barry Island from the Birmingham area on behalf of Flights Tours Ltd. and Andy's Coaches at Birmingham last week, Mr. D. Skelding expressed surprise that the established operators of direct facilities to other Butlin camps had not made similar applications.

Eatonways Luxury Travel Ltd. had earlier sought the same destination. The West Midland Traffic Commissioners' decision on that application was reserved until they had heard the Flights and Andy's cases, which were adjourned until a date in June.

Mr. Skelding said that following information received since the applications were published, his clients would considerably curtail their request to the four Saturdays in the Birmingham industrial holiday month (July 9, 16, 23 and 30) with a vehicle allow atm of two for July 16 and 23 and one on the other two dates.

The camp was due to open on June 18, said Mr. Skelding, and was as yet an unknown quantity. The proposed service would be something of an experiment and therefore a licence for this year only was being sought.

Mr. W. G. Anderton, of Andy's Coaches, said that his service would start from Bournebrook, Birmingham, picking up at various points. He had sent out 8,000 questionnaires with his brochure asking those interested in the facility to return a slip. A total of 168 did so, but he had not asked for any indication of the date.

Cross-examined by Mr. G. A. Webb, for Associated Motorways, objecting, the witness agreed that outside the period applied for, Barry Island would have to use the Associated service or the railways.
