He succeeds William Werner, who returns to the United States to take up a new appointment in the corporation's parts organisation.
Rogers, who was director of programme planning and staff operation until his new appointment, joined GM in 1948.
Following a year in Detroit in corporate finance, Rogers transferred to Vauxhall Motors as manager of audits and procedures in 1972. In 1975 he became manager of forward planning, and from 1977-1980 (when he took on his programme planning job) he was assistant to the man aging director of Vauxhall Motors,
