A DALKEITH coach hirer who had five buses banned by the Department of Transport has been allowed to keep his licences. The Scottish Traffic Commissioners decided at a public hearing in Edinburgh on August 22 to issue Drew Linton with a final warning.

The Commissioners had heard that a plan to make proper maintenance facilities at the firm's Newbattle industrial estate base took about one-and-a-half years to get through local authority planning procedures.

Andrew Linton, who runs the business with partner William Robertson, had been called to the hearing to show cause why his current psv licences should not be suspended or revoked, and any further applications refused.

Norman Cleghorn, senior Department of Transport vehicle examiner, told the hearing the operator received a severe warning from ttie Commissioners in 1976 over vehicle maintenance.

A subsequent inspection was satisfactory and further licences were granted. But checks in 1978 and this year resulted in five immediate suspensions.

James Dalgetty, chairman, said that althoughthe operator's record did not look very good, they were not prepared to hold that he was not a fit person to have psv licences. It was not altogether the operator's fault that the present situation had arisen.
