He had previously _acquired considerable knowledge of the road-transport industry when he was with the B.R.F. from March, 1933, as' assistant to Mr. Bristow when the latter was honorary 'secretary of that. body. He has had varied commercial experience, having held company secretarial and accountancy appointments, and was a winner in the final examination of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries, of which he is a Fellow.

MR, WALLACE B. PHILLIPS has accepted election as chairman of the National Executive Committee of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. He was one of the founder members of the London " Safety First" Council when it was formed in 1916, and is well known in motor-trade circles by reason of his association with the Pyrene concern.

MR. F. A. WALKER, who has been acting secretary of the P.V.O.A. since the death of Mr. F. G. Bristow, C.B.E., last June, has been appointed chief executive officer, with the title of national secretary. Commencing his career id the industry in 1927 with ore of the pioneer companies operating long-distance services between London, Northampton, and Leicester, he became secretary of the Motor Hirers and Coach Owners Association in 1930. This body amalgamated with the original R.H.A. in 1933 under the title of Associated Road Operators, when Mr. Walker became secretary of the passenger and ancillary sectiOns. He relinquished ibis position in 1935 to become assistant secretary of the C.M.U.A. During the war he acted as &platy to the late Mr. F. G. Bristow, general secretary of tnat Association.

SQUADRON LEADER J.'RAWES, R.A.F., who was formerly manager of Adcocks Garages, Ltd., Chichester, and previous to that was with F. Perkins, Ltd., has been awarded a certificate of good service and devotion to duty by the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command. He has been serving as an M.T. officer with the R.A.F. sinte 1940, and for over three years I.as commanded M.T. Companies, the last beingNo. 2 M.T. Company, R.A.F. Station, Quy, Cambridge.

MR. BERNARD H. HUNT is retiring, on September 30 next, from Pirelli; Ltd., the tyre interests of which he has served for nearly .25 years. After three years, as_a salesman in the south of ,England, he underwent a special course of technical training, and . was then appointed special representative of the company. Later, he opened up the cornpany's• activities in Ireland, with a branchoffice in Dublin, and after two years returned to.London to assist the general sales manager. In 1931 he opened up the Pirelli branch in Birmingham, and in 1935 became diviFaunal manager for Birmingham and Manchester. MR. H. A. PARSON, who has been manager of Pirelli's Birmingham branch for many years, will continue his management of that branch. At the Manchester branch, Mr. Hunt will be succeeded by Ma. T. C. PERKINS, who joined the company in 1926 and is well known in the Manchester district, where he represented the company for five years. In 1931, he was appointed manager for Scotland, with a branch office in Glasgow. He being succeeded n Scotland by MR.
