Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

KNOWN as the Dragon semi-trailer, and produced by the Truck and Tractor Appliance Co. (Manchester), Ltd., Trafford Park, Manchester, 17, a new model has recently been placed on The market embodying axles of the oscillating type. The main frame is of rolled-steel construction, having • massive cross-members of ample strength and a supplementary frame supported .by outrigger brackets riveted to the main frame and extending the full width, with angle members and light cross-channels to support the flooring.

The detachable type of trailer is equipped with an automatic pick-up device, it being necessary only to reverse the tractor once in order to couple up, as the top portion of the device has a wide entrance and will collect the king-pin from almost any angle. Hardened steel jaws hold the king-pin in position, these having an easy push entrance from the outside, but providing a positive lock when the trailer is in position. The device is pivoted on the tractor frame, In order to compensate for any variations in ground level.

When uncoupled, the trailer is supported by jockey wheels, which may be steered by means of a: tiller bar and are raised or. lowered by a detachable handle situated at the platform level. The four rear wheels are mounted. on

.1328 separate axles, each wheel being free to travel on corners at a speed independent of the other three, thus eliminating tyre drag and prolonging the life of the tyres.

Heavy twin half-elliptic springs are fitted to each pair of axles, one being mounted above and the other below the rocking-centre housing. Brakes are fitted to the four trailing wheels and are operated by dual Dewandre servos. The breakaway valve for the servos may be coupled or uncoupled in a single movement, and the operation of coupling or uncoupling the trailer can be effected in a few moments.

spare-wheel carrier is mounted at the rear end of the frame.

Loads of S tons may be carried, and a range of suitable bodywork is available; the outfit may he obtained either as a permanently co•upkd semitrailer or as a detachable unit as described.
