AFTER hearing evidence all day, in an application by a Stafford coach operator for an express licence from Newcastle-under-Lyme to Bognor Regis. the West Midland Traffic Commissioners, in Birmingham last Friday, adjourned the case to a date to he fixed.

G. H. Austin and Sons. Ltd., of Derby Street, Stafford, were applying for a maximum vehicle allowance of six on the proposed express service from Newcastle to Butlin's holiday camp at Bognor Regis. The period of operation would be outwards on Friday nights from Whitsun until the last Saturday in September, returning on Saturdays. Adult fares for staggered holidays and Bank holidays would be £3 5s. and for other weeks £2 181. Children would travel half fare.

In evidence, Mrs. Jean McLeod. personal secretary to the directors of the company, said Austin's were officially appointed booking agents for Butlin's. The camp at Bognor Regis was only

opened last July. Austin's at present operated direct services to three of Butlin's camps and in each case the coach drove straight to the camp reception centre.

The company had received inquiries asking if they were operating services to the Bognor Regis camp, following film shows about Butlin's camps earlier this Year. As a result of a newspaper advertisement, the inquiries increased.

A questionnaire, sent out asking people if they were interested in the proposed service, brought 150 replies. Mrs. McLeod said she was quite certain from the inquiries that many people who had used Austin's other services to Butlin's camps would wish to travel on the proposed Bognor Regis service.
