REVEILLE. on Monday next will come bright and early for the 543 competitors inthe Army Driving Championship which covers a route of about 1,200 miles and occupies five days. Crews of three, in 123 field cars and 58 loaded 3-ton trucks, will set out at first light from controls at Colchester, Aldershot, Blandford, Oswestry and York, to rally about noon at Bedford.

A combination of car rally and reliability trial, the championship will be enlivened by driving tests at Bedford (Monday), Oswestry (during Tuesday night), Carlisle (Wednesday) and Catterick (Thursday). In addition, there are cross-country sections at Sennybridge (Tuesday), Otterburn and Catterick (Thursday). The finish will be at Bedford next Friday. Throughout the road section, vehicles will be under observation and competitors will lose marks for infringements of the Highway Code. The field cars, which use a more difficult route than the load-carriers, are timed to average 24 m.p.h.: the 3-tonners will not be required to exceed 20 m.p.h.
