• French truck dnvers are threatening to strike and set up road blocks later this month in support of their claim for 13 months' pay for 12 months' work.

The two main French driving unions. CFDT and CGT. are calling on employers to pay the extra month's wage that many companies already hand out as a Christmas bonus. Both unions have given bosses until 22 November to accede to their demands, otherwise they say a strike is inevitable. CFDT secretary-general Joel le Coq says his union is prepared for a prolonged conflict: "We will call for action without delay if there is no answer," he warns.
