Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A Yorkshire freight operator is cutting hauliers' rates by 20% because of the shunp in the housebuilding market.

Translift Freight of Knottingley, West Yorks has written to hauliers saying it has been hit by a 20% cut from a major customer, Plasmor, which has had to reduce the cost of its building blocks to remain competitive, Translift has asked hauliers to invoice showing a "20% discount from the total figure" for normal haulage rates.

John Flardstaff, general manager of Translift, told CM that his company has been paying above average haulage rates. "The reduction brings us into line with local rates," he says.
