Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Anyone who has visited Scotland — or more particularly the Aberdeen area — in the past year or so will have noticed how the North Sea oil boom is really boosting trade. And. confirmation that this is indeed so came at Kelvin Hall last week from Ford's truck chief Andy Thome who told me that whereas all truck sales in the UK were showing an overall decline of 6 per cent this year, commercial sales in Scotland are a surprising 4 per cent up.

Mr Thorns was bullish about the Present situation anyway.

He thought it a pity more prominence was not given to cv sales when looking at the "ailing" motor industry, and quoted SMMT figures showing that in the first nine months of this year British exports of • trucks under 3 tons went up a • staggering 62 per cent and in over three-tonnens by a startling 79 per cent. In the same periods, Imports of under three-bathers went down 20 per cent, though heavy imports gained 11 per cent.
