Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A PORTSMOUTH coach company, and three of its directors who were fined a total £3,000 for fraudulently avoiding paying VAT, were partially successful in their appeal against sentence at Portsmouth Crown Court.

The company, Starways Diala-Bus Ltd, was originally fined £1,500 by Portsmouth magistrates, and three of its directors, given six months suspended sentences of im prisonment and fined £500 each.

Mr K. Evans, prosecuting, said the company showed money coming in from taxi journeys, which was liable to VAT, as having derived from minibus journeys, which were not subject to the tax.

After retiring, Judge McLellan dismissed the appeal, but reduced the fine on the company by £500.
