William McMillan re-elected RHA chairman

William McMillan, director of James Hemphill Ltd, Glasgow, has been re-elected national chairman of the Road Haulage Association. John Wells has been re-elected a vice-chairman, an office he has held for the past five years. Elected for the second time as a national vice-chairman is Ken Hatcher, managing director of Hatcher Brothers Ltd, of London SEI.

Frederick (Fred) Potts has been elected a vice-chairman of the Freight Transport Association. He joins three vice-chairmen re-elected for a further year to serve with the president, John Elliott. They are L. A. Castleton, J. Foster and H. Whitaker. Also re-elected is the treasurer, F. H. Layton. Mr Potts, FTA vice-chairman for the North Western, Merseyside and North Wales division, is warehousing and transport controller for William Timpson Ltd, manufacturers of footwear. R. C. Howes, previously general manager, has moved to general sales manager, Crane Fruehauf Trailers Ltd. K. D. Vick, a director of Crane Fruehauf, has been appointed to the board of Rentco Nationwide Ltd and undertakes responsibility for the Rentco operations. D. A. Gibling, formerly at the Crane Fruehauf North Walsham plant has been appointed Rentco sales manager.

B. C. Jessop, general manager Scammell Lorries Ltd, has been appointed deputy chairman Transport Equipment (Thornycroft) Ltd with special responsibility for co-ordinating the activities of both companies.

R. Sam becomes general manager of the latter company and is responsible directly to Mr Jessop. Mr Sollett has been purchasing manager of British Leyland's special products division since the division's inception last August and these duties are taken over by V. H. Wilkes who will remain supplies manager for Scammell. Former general manager at Basingstoke, D. S. Jackson, becomes works director Barfords of Belton Ltd.

Peter Watson, managing director of Lansing Bagnall, will assume full executive control of the company on June 1. R. S. Odd is relinquishing his position of managing director to take up the non-executive post of deputy chairman.

Ronald Harris has been promoted Avis contract sales manager trucks (Europe). Among other executive changes are those of John Kirwan to fleet manager (UK), James Law to district manager (Northern Ireland), David Sloan to district manal (Midlands) and Edward Webster director of truck rental (Europe). Furli moves in the international division expected when executive vice-presidi Colin Marshall moves his hq to the USA the end of May.

M. J. Thompson, 28, has been promo1 area manager for the Pinchin Johns Paints transport division with responsibilit for sales of refinish paints throughout I Greater London area and South of Engle' Stanley F. Smith, 46, at present Brit Railways director of research, is to beco London Transport's director-general research and development in July. Smith was for two years Rolls-Royc chief research engineer.

A. G.• Shaw, 40, has been appoint London Transport assistant secretary. Shaw joined LT in 1948. He acted as perso assistant to the chairman for a time in 1968.

Robert R. Davies, 46, manager of a• bourne Corporation Transport, is to SUCC4 T. Bamford as Doncaster Corporat Transport manager when Mr Etamf retires on August 1.

We record with regret the death of Alexan Robertson. Mr Robertson, 86, was a forr deputy Licensing Authority in Scotland. completed 60 years in the Civil Servi becoming clerk to the Traffic Commission in South Scotland in 1931, and was deputy from 1941 till 1960.
