his honorary adviser on road traffic. Sir Alex was appointed by the then Minister as his honorary adviser on London traffic management in 1961. This appointment necessarily lapsed at the end of March, when the Minister gave up his special traffic powers in London to the ,Greater London Council, but he then said that he intended to retain the services of Sir Alex. The Minister has also appointed Sir Alex as deputy chairman of the National Road Safety Advisory Council.

Mr. Stanley T. Alton has been appointed managing director of all the operating subsidiary companies of Distributor Deliveries. Ltd. Mr. Alton joined Plymouth Transport Co. Ltd. in 1956. Mr. Norman Abbott has been appointed transport manager of Capon and Sons Ltd., London. Mr. Abbott was previously transport manager of Nicholls and Co. (Brighton) Ltd. at the company's London depot. The Spiller Group has re-organized its distribution and transport under the general distribution manager in London, Mr. N. J. D. Vernon. Under Mr. Vernon will be assistant distribution manager, Mr. B. T. Bennett; group transport purchasing manager, Mr. S. J. Lamborn; group transport manager, Mr. P. D. Roberts and group transport engineer, Mr. W. R. Orion.

Mr. A. A. M. Durrant, London Transport's chief mechanical engineer (road services) is to retire on July 3 after 46 years with London General Omnibus Co. and London Transport. Mr. Durrant joined LGOC in 1919 as technical asistant to the company's engineer and after._ various appointments he became company engineer in 1932. In 1933 he became engineer (central buses) and in 1935 became chief engineer (buses and coaches). He was appointed to his present position in 1945.

Obituary

We regret to record the deaths of Mr. F. C. flatfoot and C. Alexander.

Mr. Harfoot was managing director of S. Harfoot and Sons Ltd., the Barry hauliers who run a fleet of some 130 vehicles. He was prominent in RHA circles, sitting on the national council for many years. He had been a member of the executive committee and was a member of the recently formed labour relations committee, Mr. Harfoot, who was 54 at the time of his recent death, was also a member of the Road Haulage Wages Council. Mr. Alexander, 63, was managing director of Lewis Motor Transport Ltd., hauliers. and of Alexander's Lewis Motor Garage Ltd.
