Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Maximum load capacity on van roofs rends to be in the 80-100kg range, so if you plan to carry a lot of ladders, pipe carriers and other equipment on the roof, do remember to check the total weight of the load.

Roof-rack specialist Trukrax can supply racks for most makes of vans within 24 hours. The zinc-plated steel rails can be fixed to gutter rails or the integral fixing channels now incorporated in many vans. Each 38mm squaresection crossbar comes with two ladder locaters. On carderived vans the cross-bars are supported by extra side rails for strength, and the locators can be moved to take boards and wider loads.

On high-roof vans the system has rear rollers which help protect the roof as well as facilitating unloading.

There has been a trend towards ground-loading of roof-mounted equipment, mainly for health and safety reasons. Climbing on top of vehicles can be hazardous and workers can be injured trying to unload and load roof-mounted kit.

Bri-Stor's Easy-Load allows the driver to remain on the ground while dismounting the ladder. The galvanised steel system comes in single or twin-ladder form and is similar to a loft-ladder in operation. Van Liners also offers a groundloading ladder system.
