• Around 500 Leyland workers this week braved snow showers to lobby MPs at the House of Commons. Leyland AUEW convener Derek Bullen said the success of the lobby would depend on the actions of Conservative MPs at a debate on the motor industry called by Labour industry spokesman John Smith, last Wednesday.
Bullen said that the Government's plans for Leyland Trucks are not a merger but a give-away, and that the agreement with Daf should be a shared, 50-50 partnership, in which Leyland can take an equal part in research, design and manufacture.
