The signing of a £6.5m contract between ibery Owen-Rockwell Ltd. and Crane Frueuf Trailers Ltd. for the supply of semi-trailer les signifies a standardization by Crane uehauf on axles of this make. This record ntract covers both standard and oil-filledb types.
Meanwhile, Rubery Owen-Rockwell has mpleted plans for the introduction of a new .3tric axle later this year. Based on the TM ries, and developed from the company's T ries and U series, this will allow a further mdardization and rationalization in the instry, says RO. It also heralds an intensified ve by Rubery Owen-Rockwell in the Euroan and Scandinavian markets.
Initial production of the new axle will be ntred on the company's Warrington factory, t managing director Mr. John Pierce con-ns that a new factory is being built at igen, near Dortmund, Germany, to ensure
maximum flexibility and volume of production. The Hagen plant will have an annual capacity of 25,000 axles and is purpose-built to use the company's UK experience with computerized raw-material supply and flow-line production.
Production of the existing series of axles will be continued, both to meet specific overseas demand (particularly from Australia and New Zealand) and also to ensure an adequate spares and replacement service within the UK and Europe. Development of the metric axle will be paralleled with continued service and support for the existing axle for as long as this is needed.
A network of 187 points where spares and service can be obtained has now been established in the British Isles and Southern Ireland; these are fully detailed in the Rubery Owen-Rockwell service directory.
