A NEW ENTRY to the electric CV market is set to be launched in Britain after receiving backing from the Technology Strategy Board.

Clean powertrain maker Intelligent Energy has combined with Revolve Technologies to produce a 3.5-tonne GVW range-extended electric delivery van capable of taking a 1,400kg payload and returning an expected 300mpg.

Power is stored in the centrally mounted 25.1kWh battery, and linked to a 75kW traction motor producing maximum torque of 600Nm. The range-extender unit is a 1.4-litre Ford engine taken from the Fiesta passenger car. Components from Ford’s Transit van, including suspension and braking systems, were used in the vehicle’s construction. The vehicle will be branded as Emerald Automotive.

CEO Andy Tempest says: “It has been designed for large fleet delivery users. After working with DHL and Royal Mail, we understood what their duty cycle was, how they operated and what their needs were.”
