• Mr. Raymond Birch, a founder member of the National Committee on Road Transport Education, has resigned as chairman following retirement from his business interests. Mr. D. S. Deacon has been elected to the chair.
This year's is the fourth report since the revised scheme of studies was introduced in the 1963/64 session which re-organized the course so that it could be completed in two instead of three years. The year under review has not seen any increase in the number of students, and disappointment is expressed that the surge of interest shown in the revised scheme when it was introduced has not been maintained. The following figures show the trend since the 1964 examinations:—
The Committee hopes an improvement will show when the work of the Road Transport Industry Training Board is felt.
The number of employees of passenger transport companies taking the examinations has dropped from 186 in 1964 to 91 in the year under review. Road hauliers had 50 students in 1967. While this was an improvement over the past two years it was short of the record number of 60 shown in 1964.
