BID TO ENCOURAGE AIRMINDEDNESS.

A NEW line of propaganda for air tittravel is being started by the Commercial Aviation Committee, of which the three members are the London Chamber of Commerce, the Association of British Chambers of Commerce and the Federation of British Industries. The committee is trying to persuade the leading manufacturing companies and business houses to encourage air-mindedness by sending the senior members of their staffs on flights around London or some other district.

It is felt that this will increase air travel among important business people who have to go to the Continent or on business trips in England. The committee appreciates the importance of such initial flights being made in the most silent and comfortable aeroplanes.

The following air-transport operators have agreed to co-operate :—Imperial Airways, Ltd., Airwork, Ltd., Norman Edgar Western Airways, Ltd., Provincial Airways., Ltd., 011ey Air Service, Ltd., Crilly Airways, Ltd., Highland Airways, Ltd., Portsmouth, Southsea and Isle of Wight Aviation, Ltd., Hillman's Airways, Ltd., North Eastern Airways, Ltd., and Railway Air Services, Ltd.

AIR TRAVEL FOR MUNICIPAL OFFICIALS.

BLACKPOOL Corporation is believed to have created a precedent by allowing members and officials, who so desire, to travel by air when engaged on municipal business. Half an hour after this decision had been reached at a meeting, recently, a party of officers and councillors left for London by air.

If this new ruling be generally adopted by corporations, it should prove of considerable benefit to internal-air-line operators.

NEW BRADFORD-I.O.M. SERVICES.

SERVICES between the Leeds-Bradford airport at Yeadon, and Blackpool and the Isle of Man, are to be. started shortly by United Airways, Ltd., which will run twice-daily services from Yeadon, and by Blackpool and

West Coast Services, Ltd., which will operate a once-daily service.

The journey will occupy 1i hour compared with a train and boat journey of over five hours on the shortest route, via Heysham. De Haviliand Dragon machines, each carrying seven or eight passengers, will be used The return fare will be under £4, and passengers joining or leaving the aeroplanes at Blackpool will be charged half the full fare.

HILLMAN'S NEW ROAD LINKS WITH AIR TRANSPORT.

UNUSUAL features are incorporated in two handsome Gilford coaches, with bodies by Wycombe Motor Bodies, Ltd., which have recently been delivered to Hillman's Airways, Ltd. The sweeping tail incorporates a steel

lined compartment for air mail, luggage and bullion.

There is luxurious accommodation for 24 passengers, and on the near side there is a sliding door teethe main compartment. The emergency door and the entrance in the rear panel to the mall compartment have electric telltale lamps, which light up in the driver's cab should either of the doors be open or half-latched.

It will be recalled that the late Mr. Edward Hillman was a large user of Gilford machines in connection with Hillman's Saloon Services, Ltd.

BAN ON BOOKING FOR NONRAILWAY COMPANIES.

IN the House of Commons, recently, I Mr. Dickie has asked both the UnderSecretary of State for Air and the Minister of Transport to look into the position of booking agencies in relation to air-transport companies. The railways stipulate that . booking agencies holding their tickets shall not book for non-railway air-transport companies.

As this veto applies to the biggest booking agencies in the country, the effect on air-travel bookings of the independent operators in this country is quite serious. The replies given in Parliament have been to the effect that the Government cannot interfere in what is purely a business mattei. • OLLEY CO. MANAGER OF SHOREHAM AIRPORT.
