CHESHIRE OPERATOR F Swain & Sons' bid for a new 0-licence for 14 vehicles and 14 trailers based at Wotton Road, Iron Acton, near Bristol is to be considered by Western Traffic Commissioner Philip Brown at a Bristol public inquiry.

The TC is understood to be unhappy with the firm's nominated transport manager.

A VOSA investigation into Swain's Cheshire operations has so far resulted in three of its subcontractors being prosecuted for the falsification of tachograph records.

Heath Jukes, a director of Stokeon-Trent-based Heath Jukes Transport, and Philip Hartless, also of Stoke-on-Trent, are currently awaiting sentence at Liverpool Crown Court after pleading guilty to 20 offences of falsification.

Hartless's 0-licence was revoked by West Midland Deputy Traffic Commissioner Lester Maddrell. and he was disqualified indefinitely from holding a licence. TC David Dixon has reserved his decision over what action he will be taking against Jukes (CM 14 February).

The third subcontractor, Nigel Harrison, of Offerton. Stockport, pleaded guilty to five similar offences before the Manchester city magistrates; he was fined .€500 with £200 costs.
