• MAN aims to take 16% of the UK truck market, a target that could be reached by 2000, according to UK managing director Dr Jurgen Knorpp. This would bring the UK into line with MAN's market share across Europe, said Knorpp at the official opening of Avonmouth MAN sales and service dealer, Truckpoint.
MAN will announce its new Edinburgh dealer in the next few weeks, completing its target
of 30 UK sales and service dealers. Knorpp announced that a new service dealer will be appointed for the Gloucester and Cheltenham area and a service facility will open at MAN's UK headquarters in the next few months. This will be in addition to the existing workshops at Swindon.
Truckpoint has extended its service opening time to 22 hours a day since the dealer opened for business in March. Full 24 hour opening is expected soon. Service customers include car transporter operator Walon which has 80 vehicles and trailers on contract maintenance with Truckpoint—the dealership handles four vehicles per day.
To cope with Walon's mixed fleet, Truckpoint keeps a small stock of Iveco and Mercedes parts. Servicing is carried out by the relevant manufacturers' technicians on site.
