Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Freight pulling a trailer without sideguards (CM 7-13 Jan). What kind of people are taking these things to court? Police, lawyers, judges? All wasting money.

Surely the general public couldn't care less whether a lorry has sideguards or not? I am sure they would rather their money was spent on proper policing. There are pensioners sitting at home too frightened to go out for fear of being mugged. I'm sure they couldn't care if a driver has 35 minutes break instead of 45, or eight hours sleep instead of nine. This country is being strangled with red tape and officialdom.

When we get done for some of these offences the courts dish out astronomical penalties while muggers, rapists and in some cases murderers more or less get a slap on the wrist. No wonder this country is failing—people who work hard get punished for doing so.

I have been 20 years in this industry giving employment to six drivers. I have never been bankrupt or failed to pay subcontractors, tax or VAT What thanks do I get for working long hours? I am penalised. Maybe I should shut the doors and pay off the drivers. Let the country keep me and them, and maybe I'll do a bit of mugging and law breaking on the side. After all, the police will be too busy chasing drivers whose 0licence is not visible or whose tacho hasn't been calibrated in the last six years. Big deal!
