Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Services has completed the first optional line fitment of Hersham Valve's Retro Super VPS retarder on a Foden tractor for Bonfield of Cambridge.

Fitted to the 12-litre Perkins 375Tx engine the Super VPS (variable pressure slide) exhaust brake, which uses a patented pressure plate to modulate pressure, exceeds the proposed AIR endurance braking requirements by more than 25%. Recent tests at MIRA show that the Super VPS gives a deceleration of 0.79m/sec2, equal to 0.08g. Initial tests on Cummins 14-litre engines indicate a far higher level of deceleration.

With the introduction of the 400Tx this Easter the Super VPS will become standard equipment on Perkins-powered Fodens. ERF and Seddon Atkinson are also expected to include it as standard.
