The sanitary committee of Birkenhead Corporation has fixed the following charges for the hire of motor tractors and trailers for the remaining three months of the current financial year :— Tractor only, with driver, £1 17s. per day ; fixed-body trailer, 16s. 9d. per day ; tipping-body trailer, 18s. 9d. per day ; tractor and driver, with fixedbody trailer, £2 13s. 9d: per day ; with tipping-body trailer, 12 15s. 9d. per day ; with two fixed-body trailers, £3 10s. 6d. per day ; with two tippingbody trailers, £3 14s. 6d. per day.

Co-operating, to Avoid Overlapping.

Closer co-operation between road and rail passenger-transport interests in the north. vvill be brought about by the placing under the management of the United Autptnabile " Services, Ltd., of three undertakings in which the London and North-Eastern Railway Co. has a working. interest, namely, the Reliance Express.. Motors, Ltd., of Darlington, Eastern Express Motors, Ltd., of West Hartlepool, and Messrs. Robert Ernmerson, of Newcastle. The three undertakings own nearly 100 machines, and by means of the single control the waste of effort and money that results from 'overlapping of competitive services of passenger vehicles will be completely eliminated.
