Operators who have installed SmartWitness on-board forward-facing video cameras cite lower insurance premiums, improved driver performance and an ability to defend themselves against false claims as three of the system's benefits.
SmartWitness records vital information in the event of an accident, cutting insurance claim costs by as much as 50% and protecting operators against false claims.
The system continuously records braking and acceleration speeds, collision G-forces and vehicle location. And it comes with the software to allow users to upload data via the internet directly to insurance brokers and companies.
Devereux Transport and Distribution commercial manager Chris Pickles said: "SmartWitness enables operators and drivers to defend themselves. We put the system in our vehicles in June last year and our insurer reduced the premium."
Grocontinental distribution manager Simon Thompson agreed that SmartWitness could reduce costs.
"SmartWitness, when used alongside our other disciplines, is a massive leap forward and one that has had, and will have, an enormous effect on our accident costs," he said.
