BRITAIN's Continental Freight Drivers' Club is to cater for drivers on UK domestic work as well as international drivers and has now adopted a regional system of organisation.
CFDC secretary general Richard Reed told CM that the demand from UK drivers had been such in past months that it had been decided that now was the time to launch the club in Britain.
The club will be handling unfair dismissal claims from members and negotiating discounts at eating places. It also intends to pursue a solution to the permits problem.
Research into early retirement on full pension for drivers is being undertaken on a long-term basis and a campaign to reduce the number of offences for which a driving licence may be endorsed is also likely.
Mr Reed said that the club is now organising regional offices and already has five, with others likely to be established in the near future.
Other changes include the basis of membership. A new member must now be sponsored by an existing member and there will be a two-tier fees system with a £15 fee for international drivers and £12 for UK domestic drivers.
