MMN production of the well-known Brady roller shutters has recently been transferred from the old headquarters in Manchester to a fresh factory in the same neighbourhood. As a result of the improved conditions of manufacture, it is understood that various savings will be effected and that reduced costs will he passed on to the customer.
Greatly increased floor space is available and the various processes have been replanned in certain respects. A special feature is the extensive provision of individually controlled electric power supplies, whilst excellent natural lighting is a valuable factor. Rarely is it possible to build any quantity of shutters to a stock pattern and they are made on a finished-to-order basis. Large stocks of all requisite fittings are maintained, and assembly of any ordinary type in the desired size or pattern is carried through very quickly, it generally being reckoned that even local orders can be executed in less time than it takes road transport to deliver them. This includes the erection and test that take place before any shutter leaves the factory.
Sections for the metal shutters are rolled from the bar, in a nine-pair rolling mill. When wood sections come from the moulding mill they are trenched to take the steel links which are then fitted, and, in this case, electric saws trim the shutter so that it exactly fits the specified opening.
With both vehicle and garage shutters many factors affect the ultimate life of the fitting, so that careful study may be required prior to the selection of the right material. In some distriuts atmospheric conditions are particularly harsh on garage shutters, and advice from the Brady branch-factories is often obtained with regard to exceptional conditions.
