indicator has recently been introduced by Blue Bus Services, Ltd., of Willington Garage, Willington, Derbyshire. Various difficulties that the company encountered led to an effort being made to combine the advafitages of the box indicator and the destination board, the result being the indicator now in use. 'This was invented by Mr. Fletcher, one of the concern's depot staff, and it has been protected by patents.
The indicator is fitted in two slots obliquely across the bonnet of a forwardcontrol bus. Into the box two glass panels are built, behind which there is a canvas screeu on rollers. The lower and larger unit shows the route and works on the principle of a normal roller indicator. The visible route is changed by means of knobs at the side. Actually, four different routes are catered for, but more could be provided.
The smaller upper panel shows the destination, a pin on each side attaching the panel to the main board, about which pins it can swivel in order to show either side. The word Burton is displayed on one side and Derby on the other.
We understand that this is the most simple method when there are only two centres to which the buses run, but the .device could be altered to include a roller indicator instead of this fixed swivel one. This is held in position by a pin, which is pulled out when it is desired to change the destination.
Both parts of the indicator are illuminated by electric light, the electric circuit being completed when the board is placed in the slots. The circuit is so arranged that when the fixing pin is withdrawn to swing over the destination section the circuit is broken.
