Daf tippers on clearance work for Day Aggregates

Day Aggregates has taken a delivery of nine Daf CF85 four-axle tippers to add to its 120-strong fleet. The 32-tonne Dafs are being used for site clearance work and deliveries for the recycling company across the South East. “The strength of the Daf dealer network is one of the key things that drew us to the marque,” said group transport manager Chris Cooling.

Knights of Old puts 12 Ivecos into service

Knights of Old has put its first Ivecos into service after adding 10 Eurocargo 7.5-tonners and two Eurocargo 18-tonners to its 170strong fleet. MD Ian Beattie said: “We were impressed with their fuel economy and payload capacity; replacing like for like was an obvious choice.” The vehicles are fitted with a Verilocation tracking device and a reversing camera to help improve safety and load security.

Fowler Welch goes for MAN Euro-5 and -6 units

Fowler Welch has ordered 130 MAN TGX 26.440 XLX Euro-5 units to add to its fleet, which handles chilled and ambient goods. The vehicles will replace about a third of its three-year old Volvos. The company has also ordered five Euro-6 vehicles from MAN for delivery when they become available. Fleet manager Paul Allera said: “Our customers in the chilled sector rely on us to meet their day-one-for-day-two schedules, and that means keeping our fleet as efficient and closely monitored as possible. With these replacements we can build on our high standards and tackle demands and new customers without any problem.”

Environcom swaps 18-tonners for 15-tonne rigids

Fraikin has won a five-year hire contract with specialist recycling company Environcom, which will receive three 15-tonne rigid box trucks. The company hopes to reduce its fuel bill by replacing its 18 tonners. The units are fitted with tail-lifts and sleeper cabs and will be used to deliver electrical goods to charity shops from its Grantham and London sites. Environcom chief financial officer Jon Parsons said: “Originally I was requesting 18-tonners because that was what I was replacing, but Fraikin challenged me about what was best for the business.”

More mpg from Andyfreight’s six Actros trucks

Long-standing Mercedes-Benz operator Andyfreight has seen an improvement in fuel economy after taking delivery of six Euro-5 Actros trucks from Rygor Commercials. The units have 450hp engines with Mercedes’ PowerShift3 automatic transmissions and have been averaging 9.3mpg on general haulage work for the West Midlands firm. “That’s 0.7 of a gallon better than the vehicles they’ve replaced, an improvement that, over a year, is going to save us up to £5,000 per unit in diesel costs,” MD Andy Pountney said.
