Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The 'lamb war' with French farmers took a new turn this week when a French truck driver was viciously attacked on the M2 in Kent.

Driver Eric Gunther, who was carrying pharmaceuticals, was left with a fractured skull. He has now left hospital and is recovering in France.

Kent Police say Gunther was "very badly beaten" after three men in a white Ford Fiesta forced his truck onto the motorway hard shoulder near Chatham, Kent. The French driver, believing the three required assistance, walked towards them. They punched, kicked and beat him unconscious with a baseball bat.

Before leaving the scene, the thugs smashed Gunther's tachograph and headlights, but made no attempt to investigate his load.

Police say that a caller claiming to be from the British Nationalist Party telephoned them to claim responsibility. "What the motive is remains a mystery", says the Kent police. They advise drivers fearing for their safety to call for help from a motorway telephone.
