Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

'Whatever the load, we will design and build a semi-trailer to carry it'

WE used this phrase to close our previous page of Trailer Talk. We make no apology for opening with it here because we think it worth repeating. It sums up the Scammell policy in a nutshell; not a boast but a plain statement of fact although with the 600 plus varieties already designed we feel sure that most of your needs can be met from our existing range.

But there's little point in making the widest range of semi-trailers in the country plus every kind of motive unit to haul them if, at the same time, you don't provide the service to back it. We do. You can get Scammell service practically anywhere; if not exactly from Land's End to John O'Groats, at least from Aberdeen to Plymouth and all points in between. The map below will give you an idea of the countrywide -coverage of Scammell dealers and depots. At any of them you can find out anything you want to know about semi-trailers or get any kind of service you may need on semi-trailers. And if you'd like to know exactly who's who and precisely where they are, the coupon at the foot will bring you a full list of names and addresses.

Cause and effect—or vice versa.

A new electrically operated rotary welding jig has been installed at our Moor Park Works. It has an 8-ton capacity and welds frame lengths up to 30 ft and in any width. Why should this be of interest to trailer-operators? Because this plant will mainly be used to increase production of Scammell `Fourtrak' semi-trailers which are of all-welded construction.

Production is being stepped up for the best reason in the world high demand. And demand is increasing for another unarguable reason tip-top quality and outstanding value for money. What, in particular, makes the Fourtrak such a good buy? There are many factors. The whole semi-trailer has been designed to combine lightness with strength and simplicity. Its unladen weight is low and its payload is correspondingly high. Its overall specification is'more than adequate for the load it has to carry (which accounts for its toughness and long life As for maintenance, this has been cut to an absolute minimun No chassis lubrication at all is required, the only points needin attention being the wheel bearings and, at very long interval the landing gear. All parts liable to eventual wear (e.g. th Timken taper roller wheel bearings and the 5th-wheel kingpir are extremely simple to replace when necessary. These are some of the features which go to make the Fourtra what it is one of the most-in-demand semi-trailers in th whole wide Scammell range. Price for price, weight for weigh payload for payload and, most important of all, specification ft specification, there isn't another semi-trailer of its kind on th road to touch it.

Two semi-trailers for the price of one. Not quite but almost ! One of the latest additions to th standard range of Scammell semi-trailers is a combined co carrier and flat platform outfit. For coil carrying, four section of the flooring are removed ,(see illustration below) to reveal well 52' long, 13" deep and with a curvature of 3' 3'. It is mad from 3/16" steel plate and has ten longitudinal hardwood slat to protect the coils. The payload in this application is 15 tom For general purpose work the flooring slots back in not mud more time than it takes to tell, to give a flat platform body wit] a payload of around 16 tons. The exact payload depends on th make and specification of the motive unit.

This new two-in-one semi-trailer is designed for 24 ton: G.V.W. It has 5th-wheel coupling and the landing legs an fitted with 'Elephants Feet'. The running gear is a Scammel trailing arm non-reactive bogie with air or rubber suspension All in all, a really tough, highly reliable, well designec semi-trailer.
