• Two Spanish truck drivers who failed to give cattle their legal resting and feeding break have been given a two-year conditional discharge but ordered to pay £481 costs.
Poole magistrates heard that on a trip from the Irish Republic to Spain, the pair had also failed to partition the animals adequately. Angel Moreno Artero, of Torre de Cotilla Murcia and co-driver Antonio Parra Gonzalez of Sangonera La Verde, were caught by a Ministry of Agriculture inspector at Poole. • Customs and Excise found a Greek truck driver carrying E9m worth of heroin in his truck at Sheerness on Friday (7 October). Driver Savvas Avromedes has been charged with the importation of prohibited substances and was due to appear before Sittingbourne magistrates yesterday (12 October).
