Portable Oil-fired Space Heaters ARANGE of Master portable, oil-fired space heaters for use on sites or inside buildings is now being marketed by W. C. Youngman Ltd. Output capacity of the four models 'available is from 75,000 to 320,000 B.t.u. per hour and a heated air flow of from 345 to 1,500 c.f.m.

Each model has a forced-draught heater mounted above a large-capacity fuel tank arranged on two rubber-tyred wheels. Leg supports and handles are fitted to the units to give an easily transportable, lightweight, compact unit. The heater unit is contained within a mild-steel protective casing. This incorporates a pressure-atomizing burner (suitable for use with paraffin), a stainless steel combustion chamber and a fractional h.p. electric motor driving a propeller-type fan and fuel pump—or in the case of a small model which uses a vacuum feed system, a sliding vane-type air compressor. Fuel is pumped through the atomizing nozzle through a micronic filter and into the combustion chamber, where it is fired by two constant-ignition electrodes. The heated air leaves the chamber after first being deflected by an end cone, which serves both as an afterburner and trap for the combustion products. A flow of air is also directed along the outer surface of the combustion chamber, where it is heated before being discharged. A specially designed vented model is available for applications where complete air purity is essential. This unit (output 140,000 B.t.u.) has a built-in thermostat and, incorporates a sealed duct-work extract system for removing gases from the combustion chamber.

A feature of this range of portable heaters is their economy of operation. Average fuel consumption of the smaller unit is said to be about 0-44 gal, per hour—the largest (320,000 B.t.u.) unit burns approximately 1-9 gal, per hour. Fuel tank capacities range from 6-25 to 25 gal. to ensure continuous running periods of from 12 to 17 hours.
