Steve Hobson, editor of sister publication Motor Transport, has been tapping up the truck manufacturers to sponsor his Cycle Tanzania bike ride in support of Transaid.
At the recent CV Operator Show, Steve sweet-talked DAF Trucks marketing director Tony Pain into very generously contributing £250 to the cause, which involves a 420km bike ride over seven days in Tanzania in October.
Steve blogs: "Tony's idea was that the other truck manufacturers would then feel obliged to at least match DAF's donation — and it worked! Scania GB communications manager Chris Love quickly responded with a pledge of £251 plus some Scania gear, so a big thank you to Chris too. Next to join the arms race was Iveco, coming in with another £250, so thank you to lveco communication director Nigel Emms."
